NSS
Unit of Innocent Hearts College of Education, Jalandhar organised National
Youth day and Lohri function on Jan 12, 2018. Executive Director Mrs. Aradhana
Bowry, Principal Dr. Arjinder Singh and faculty members inaugurated
the ceremony by lighting up the bon-fire. The
student-teachers gave inspiring information about the life sketch of Swami
Vivekananda, his Chicago address, his teachings and views on woman empowerment,
god, culture and sang melodiously “na sir jhukha ke jiyo”. All the students
sang together and were motivated to choose the right path, to live a peaceful
life, to fight against hardships and never give up.
The
students gave speeches on upliftment of girl youth power and equality. Swamijis
teachings were related to the objectives of Lohri celebration. Swamiji always
believed in the youth power and to nourish the historical culture of the
country.
NSS Unit highlighted the importance of celebrating Lohri that it is a
festival essentially dedicated to Sun god. Group dance was performed by
student-teachers. Dance and singing ‘Tappe’ competition was organised. Folk songs
were sung by teachers and students while moving around the bon-fire and
offering popcorns, sweets, puffed rice and peanuts to it.
Remembering
the birth of Swami Vivekananda, Principal Dr. Arjinder Singh emphasized the
need to bring positive change in the society. He said that Lohri should be
celebrated for the girl child too and for abolishing social evils.
