Self defence is not just a set of techniques, it’s a state of mind and
it begins with the belief that you are worth defending. A workshop on
Self-defence was conducted in Innocent Hearts College of Education, Jalandhar.
The resource person, Mr. Harpreet Singh Randhawa, karate coach, black belt, in
innocent hearts school, has been teaching this skill since 22 years.
The martial arts training was carried out with active participation from
student-teachers as well as faculty
members of the college. Appraising the student-teachers about the importance of
Self Defence, Mr. Harpreet taught the girls some easy yet effective techniques
to defend themselves. He motivated the student-teachers to speak up against
crimes and gave them tips about what to do if they are trapped in an
undesirable situation. He also gave the student-teachers a demonstration of
street fight techniques in real life scenarios. All the students and faculty
members showed their keen interest in the workshop and they were happy to learn
the ways of self-defence. Motivating the students to learn this skill of self
defence, Principal Dr. Arjinder Singh said that we live in that society where
crime against women has risen to a shocking extent, the ability to protect
ourselves from undesirable situations has become a necessity, so self-defence,
especially for women, is of the utmost importance in the kind of the world we
live in today. He also thanked the resource person for sparing his valuable time
and for sharing his knowledge on self-defence and assured such kind of
activities will continue in the college.
