The NSS unit of Innocent Hearts College of Education, Jalandhar started celebrations of Gandhi Jayanti with the aim of promoting Gandhian Philosophy on Cleanliness as having three dimensions - a clean mind, a clean body and clean surroundings.
Swachhata Hi Seva (SHS) campaign started from September 25, 2023 onwards with the theme of SHS-2023 that is 'Garbage Free India' in the teaching practice schools by the student- teachers. Various activities were conducted with the school students which included essay writing on ‘“No one should spit or clean his nose on the streets…-M.K. Gandhi” and extension lectures for spreading awareness about the importance of waste segregation management - saturating dry and wet waste bins in line with the Hara Geela, Sookha Neela campaign.  Morning assembly speeches on discouraging usage of single use plastic items was also given by NSS volunteers in the schools.

All the student-teachers actively practiced handicrafts like pottery making, decorative paper bag making, paper mache, glass work, paper crafts, puppets and stone work etc with the waste materials. Mahatma Gandhiji had emphasized on handicraft training, “not merely for production work but for developing intellect of the pupils”.
Principal Dr. Arjinder Singh explained the quotation of Gandhiji, “I will not let anyone walk through my mind with their dirty feet.” He further said that it is very much important for all to understand, spread and imbibe the philosophy of cleanliness given by our Father of the nation, Mahatma Gandhiji.
